Chairman of the Intellectual Property Institute

Chairman of the UK-based Intellectual Property Institute from 1999 until 2011, Ian Harvey started his career as an engineer in the civil, aerospace and chemical industries. From 1985 until his retirement in 2004, Harvey served as CEO of BTG plc, a leading technology commercialisation company.

Harvey has been studying the history and trends of global invention and technology development and the related role of intellectual property for many years. He has written many articles and lectures widely on global IP and technology issues, particularly as they relate to business. Harvey was chairman of the UK government IP Advisory Committee and a member of the prime minister’s Advisory Council on Science and Technology. He is currently involved in the development of intellectual property in China and pressing for the teaching of intellectual property as part of strategy in business school programmes worldwide.
